Classic Car Radios For Sale

Radiomobile Model 1070, 1080 & 1090

Medium wave, Long wave and FM radio with optional iPod/MP3 interface.

I have a number of this series of radios (1070 to 1095) available for conversion. These were made between 1968 and 1975. The 1070 uses a single transistor output stage giving about 3 watts. The 1080 was the uprated model with an 8 watt,  two transistor output. The entry level radio is as standard except it has been upgraded with an Aurora Design FMC2 FM module which gives the added benefit of receiving FM stations.

This means that the radio works exactly as it was made on MW & LW but additionally by toggling the On/Off switch, it will tune through the UK FM band. All controls and push-buttons work as normal.

An optional Aux input is available which is correctly mixed down to mono and buffered.

Fully serviced, tested and aligned it is offered with a 12 month return-to-vendor warranty.

With this conversion the radio can be supplied either negative or positive earth.

Built to customer order. Specification can be increased to include four speaker FM stereo, DAB & Bluetooth at extra cost. (Bluetooth only available with the stereo receiver).

From £395.00 (£329.17 + VAT)

I also have available  boxed, new old stock, never fitted. Please enquire.

Radiomobile Model 200X

Medium Wave,  4 Speaker Stereo FM. with optional iPod/MP3 interface

Following the discontinuation of their 4200 series, Radiomobile introduced a replacement series of control units, the 200 series, comprising mainly 200X and 200R. Apart from the obvious changes in styling, one other difference was the introduction of a new and significantly smaller, amplifier unit.

Manufactured from 1955 until about 1958, these radios have been given new life and are now offered with a four speaker 45 watt per channel, stereo FM upgrade that dispenses with the need for a separate amplifier. The entire radio is now contained within the control unit and is Negative earth unless a polarity converter is installed.

Motorola Model 114

Medium Wave Long Wave & FM, iPod/MP3 Option

Model 114 was a compact two waveband radio built in the early 1970s for a number of years. With its distinctive triangular (more correctly known as Reuleaux) shaped knobs, it is a very attractive radio with just about the right amount of chrome for the period.

Coming from the post-Radiomobile era, it was a not a clone but an extremely well designed radio using silicon transistors resulting in very good and reliable performance with plenty of output.

Made fundamentally with negative earth cars in mind, it is, however, switchable to positive earth if needed. Now offered with the Aurora Design mono FM tuner, this is very versatile and attractive little radio.

This radio can be further upgraded with the addition of four speaker stereo FM, DAB/DAB+ and/or Bluetooth. (Bluetooth only available with the stereo receiver).

A perfect period correct radio for Series 2 E Type, Triumph Stag or TR6, MGB and many many other vehicles of the 70s.

From £495.00 (£412.50 +VAT)

Motorola Model 144

Medium Wave Long Wave & FM, iPod/MP3 Option

New Old Stock. Never fitted. One Only

Model 144 was pretty well the last Motorola of this style before the advent of digitally synthesised tuning.

Another post-Radiomobile model, there was no equivalent from that brand. This is an extremely well designed radio using silicon transistors resulting in very good and reliable performance with plenty of output.

Made fundamentally with negative earth cars in mind, it is, however, switchable to positive earth if needed. Now offered with the Aurora Design mono FM tuner, this is very versatile and attractive little radio.

This radio can be further upgraded with the addition of four speaker stereo FM, DAB/DAB+ and/or Bluetooth but would be such a shame to do to a brand new radio.

A perfect period correct radio for any late 70s classic.

Bentley Mk V - Radiomobile (HMV) 4200 Special Version

Medium Wave Long Wave & FM, iPod/MP3 Option

This is the ultra rare special version of the model 4200 made only for the Bentley Mk V.

Previously, Bentley had fitted the Radiomobile model 100 (see above) to the Mk V but when the company stopped making this radio and started producing the model 4200, this did not fit the space that Bentley had in the dash. Radiomobile agreed to make a special version of the 4200 that would not only fit in the space intended for the earlier model 100 but also match the Bentley styling and fonts.

Offered here, beautifully restored, with all the correct brackets and fittings and upgraded with the Aurora FMC-2 FM tuner, you will wait a long time before you’ll find another one of these let alone in this condition.

One only at £1,795  (£1,495.83+VAT)

Motorola Model 828 FM

Medium Wave Long Wave & FM, iPod/MP3 Option

Motorola made two, almost identical versions of this radio from 1965/6. Model 727 featured their ‘Prestolock’ five push button tuner with two Long and three Medium wave buttons. The audio output was 4 watts and the radio sold for £24-10-1 including purchase tax.

Model 828 was the same radio  but with a push pull output delivering 8 watts and cost £28-15-10 (a little over £480 in today’s money). Both versions are clones of the Radiomobile models 970 & 980. This would have been the OE radio for Series 1 or 1.5 Jaguar E Type, Mk 2, Triumph TR and many mid 60s saloons from BMC.

Offered here fully restored and upgraded with the Aurora Design FMC-2 FM tuner either negative or positive ground.

This radio can be further upgraded with the addition of four speaker stereo FM, DAB/DAB+ and/or Bluetooth. (Bluetooth only available with the stereo receiver).

From £595 (£495.83 + VAT)

Radiomobile Model (HMV) 500T FM

Medium Wave Long Wave & FM, iPod/MP3 Option

Almost identical in appearance to its short-lived 400 series predecessor, the model 500T was Radiomobile’s second hybrid radio. Marketed under the high end ‘His Master’s Voice’ brand, it was considered to be a top quality radio of its time. Identifiable mainly by the difference in the font used for the scale, the 500T used a different valve line up to its progenitor.

The main innovation in both models was the use of recently developed low voltage anode valves. These run on 12 volts and therefore dispensed with the need for a vibrator power supply. The radio, more correctly referred to as the control unit, came with a separate all-transistor amplifier of which two versions were available.  One had a standard Class A single output transistor amplifier, the second being a more powerful Class B push pull version.

Made from 1960 onward, these radios are hugely in demand from early E Type owners and were fitted to many luxury vehicles of the era.

Offered here fully restored and upgraded with the Aurora Design FMC-2 FM tuner suitable for positive ground vehicles although can be converted to negative ground.

This radio can be further upgraded with the addition of four speaker stereo FM, DAB/DAB+ and/or Bluetooth. (Bluetooth only available with the stereo receiver).

From £695 (£579.17 + VAT)
